Description

I am a huge fan of the actor Christian Bale and the roles he plays in his movies. I decided some time ago that I simply HAVE TO draw my OCs in some of his roles which are either my fave ones or just remarkable. I have sketched the cards almost two months ago and had other priorities to work on before starting this personal fan project. There will be 6 cards of that set (until now) and it's very very personal and intimate to me. So please, be respectful. Apart from that, it is/ was much fun to collect detailed information again on the movies and to conceptualize the ACEOs. I hope you enjoy them!

Christian Bale movie tribute card #03: My OC Kimiko starring Alfred Borden from The Prestige.

"A friendship that became a rivalry. A rivalry that turned deadly."

Symbolism:
Water tank | stage | red curtain | murdered bird in destroyed cage from trick | black cylinder hat | one hand of Kim isn't shown, might be the one of Borden's where two fingers are lost | coin | electricity
Charakter depiction: Playful, narcissistic, proud magician who enjoys being on stage, being good in his job and being celebrated and admired by the audience. Eager and eager enough to go over death and even further, just to deliver a good performance.

Personal notes:
When I first had watched the movie, I didn't really know what to expect and eventually I was quite mindblown by it. I love the theme, the wicked personalities, the slight sense of murder and crime themes (not that I like murder in general, but you know what I mean), the semi-realism of everything, mixed with magic and illusion and the subtle or not so subtle play with SciFi or physics or who knows? Reminded me a bit of Jules Verne and Edgar Alla Poe and how they played with elements of SciFi and semirealism. Not to mention the mindfuck to see Wolverine, Batman and Alfred Pennyworth acting in one movie... Jk jk. I... Don't know what else to say about this movie. It's awesomeness speaks for itself and there are so many facets of it and Bale plays his role so fantastically, it's just a piece for itself and one of the best movies I ever saw.
.
Why I chose exactly this OC of mine for this movie:
I created Kimiko as a rebellious, wild, but not too freaked out person. She loves being on stage with her band, she loves going to be the player and showmaster and to perform. So, it was a quick decision for me, to chose her for the role of The Prestige. I also took into consideration that she is not only the expressive and extrovert person, but also has to hold back in her role as responsible Sailor Senshi. Alfred Borden has to do the same intention to keep his secret and to be able to keep on doing what he enjoys doing and finds necessary to do. There is quite the ambivalence for both characters, to swing between extreme self expression and very measured self discipline. Both sites are very independent on each others and aren't even strictly separated from each other, but are constantly present, sort of.

Omg, I love 'the Prestige' too!!!! I can't think of a single Bale movie that is bad now :B Well, except for Batman U_U (too dark for my taste, liked the Keaton movie better and the comedy present in previous movies, but I get it that they wanted to go in a different direction)
